Columbia Gas Project
Final Restoration in Progress - asphalt, concrete, seeding/straw.
While every attempt is being made to complete all asphalt and concrete restoration work prior to the end of 2024, we know that Columbia Gas will have to return in the spring to redo some grass seeding/straw/groundwork.
Abandonment of old Gas Lines in Progress.
As a final step to this years long project to upgrade all of the required main and service gas lines throughout the Village, Columbia Gas is taking steps to abandon old lines where necessary.

Project Purpose & Benefits to Residents:
This gas line replacement project is a part of the Columbia Gas Infrastructure Replacement Program (also referred to as IRP or AMRP). In 2008 Columbia Gas created a 25-year plan to upgrade/replace their aging infrastructure across their footprint. Every year they complete 60 – 80 projects in their service territory as a part of this program. If you are interested there is a video on their website that may provide some helpful information.
Upon completion, customers will have a fully modernized gas system with added safety features, such as:
Excess flow valves (EFV): Customer service lines will have EFVs, which are designed to restrict the flow of natural gas if a service line is damaged or broken.
Exterior meters: Customers with indoor meters will have meters relocated to the exterior to help first responders locate and shut off service during an emergency.
Plastic pipe: This specially designed plastic pipe has a longer shelf life and requires less maintenance than the bare steel and cast-iron pipe it replaces.
Columbia Gas has invested approximately $2.2 billion in communities around the state to replace aging gas lines over the last decade. This safety investment has resulted in a leak reduction of nearly 50%.
Additionally, regarding this project specifically, this project will replace all low-pressure pipe surrounding Denison University.
Roundabout Project
We are awaiting final light pole installation, crosswalk beacons, and attention to punch list items. All are estimated to be completed by the end of 2024.
Project Purpose & Benefits to Residents:
The Village of Granville is currently preparing plans to modify the intersection of SR 661 (North Pearl Street) and New Burg Street from its existing T-intersection design to a roundabout. This improvement will address traffic queuing during peak hours as well as improve the overall safety of the intersection, both for vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
A key component of the intersection redesign includes extending the shared use path on the east side of SR661 and adding high visibility marked crosswalks with push-button-activated Rectangular Rapid-Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) on all three intersection legs. The intersection is a gateway on the northern edge of the Village which serves as the logical route connecting both public and private educational facilities, recreational facilities, a nature reserve, and significant historical sites. The intersection is located less than a quarter mile from Granville's Middle School and High School campus on New Burg Street and is located adjacent to Denison University. The roundabout will help alleviate serious crashes at the intersection of SR 661, North Pearl Street, and New Burg Street. The proposed relocation of the trail (due to the roundabout construction) and the associated crossings will limit the potential for vehicle/pedestrian/bike conflicts. This project is in alignment with the Safe Routes to School Plan for the village, “Granville School Travel Plan”.
