General Tax Information

The Granville Income Tax Department is responsible for collection, audit, and enforcement of the Village’s one-and-one-half percent (1.5 %) income tax pursuant to Chapter 171 and 181 of the Granville Codified Ordinances. This tax provides funds for the purposes of general municipal operations, maintenance, new equipment, extension and enlargement of municipal services and facilities, and capital improvements.

Tax Rate: 1.5% (.015) - Credit: up to .75% (.0075) for income taxes paid to other municipalities.
Granville is a mandatory registration municipality. All residents must complete a registration form and return it to the Village Income Tax Department.

How to appeal a decision of the tax department

The Village of Granville income tax office does not administer the Granville School District income tax.  For information on your school district income tax contact the Ohio Department of Taxation at (800) 282-1780 or https://tax.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/tax/individual/school-district-income-tax/

The Village of Granville income tax office does not administer the property tax.  For information on your property tax contact the Licking county auditor’s office at (740) 670-5040 or https://lickingcounty.gov/depts/auditor/default.htm

Effective with tax year 2016  the Village of Granville along with all other Ohio municipalities have a uniform interest rate based on the federal short term interest rate.     

  • Interest rate for the tax year beginning January 1, 2017 – 6% per annum

  • Interest rate for the tax year beginning January 1, 2018 – December 31, 2020 - 7% per annum

  • Interest rate for the tax year beginning January 1, 2021 – 5% per annum

  • Interest rate for the tax year beginning January 1, 2022 - 5% per annum

  • Interest rate for the tax year beginning January 1, 2023 - 7% per annum

  • Interest rate for the tax year beginning January 1, 2024 - December 31, 2025 - 10% per annum

Due Dates:

  • Yearly Income Tax Return Due Date: April 15

  • Individual Declaration - Due Quarterly: April 15, June 15, September 15, and January 15

  • Business Declarations - Due Quarterly: April 15, June 15, September 15, and December 15

Payroll Withholding:

  • Quarterly Filers - Employers withholding less than $200.00 per month: 30 days following the last day of each calendar quarter (4/30, 7/30, 10/30, 1/30)

  • Monthly Filers - Employers withholding more than $200.00 per month: 15 days following the last day Of each calendar month. (2/15, 3/15, 4/15, 5/15, 6/15, 7/15, 8/15, 9/15, 10/15, 11/15, 12/15, 1/15)

  • Withholding Reconciliation - Due Yearly: February 28
